| Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Financial Crimes Section have been investigating the shoplifting incident that occurred on July 30, 2009, at the Saks Fifth Avenue store located at 5555 Wisconsin Avenue in Chevy Chase.
Through the course of the investigation and after extensive media coverage including the release of suspect photo and video, Jonathan Bradley, age 20, of an unconfirmed address, was developed as the suspect responsible for the shoplifting. A warrant was obtained for him on August 10, charging him with theft over $500, malicious destruction of property over $500, second-degree assault, and intent to injure by mace/chemical device.
Bradley was taken into custody on Thursday, August 13, during a routine traffic stop by Metropolitan Police in southeast Washington D.C. He was dressed as a woman at the time of his arrest. He was held in Washington, D.C. as a fugitive from justice based on the Montgomery County warrant. He waived extradition and will be transported to Montgomery County late this afternoon.
On July 30 at approximately 7:50 p.m., a suspect entered the Saks store and began walking through the store. The suspect, who was dressed as a female, but was later identified as Bradley, was carrying a very large carry-all bag. Bradley was observed removing a Chanel dress valued at approximately $2,000 from a rack and putting it in the large bag.
Bradley was stopped by a store security officer as he was about to leave the store. As the security officer was attempting to prevent the suspect from leaving, Bradley sprayed the guard in the eyes with pepper spray.
Bradley will go before a commissioner after he is transported to Montgomery County and preliminary bond or release status will be determined at that time.
