Nonprofits, National Associations & Foundations

Many features make Montgomery County a premier location for associations, foundations and not-for-profit organizations.

Montgomery County provides a premiere location for nonprofit organizations, national associations and foundations for the following reasons:

  • Proximity to Washington, D.C. – ideal positioning for access to Federal leaders and decision-makers Hill
  • Access to three international airports – (Baltimore-Washington International, Ronald Reagan International, and Dulles International)
  • Access to Metro rail service (the Red Line provides the longest and greatest number of stops through Montgomery County to Washington, D.C. and throughout the Washington Metropolitan area)
  • Hotel, Meeting and Conference Facilities – more than 25 first-class hotels containing more than 7,200 rooms and conference facilities, including a 100,000 square foot state-of-the art conference center/hotel.
  • Financing assistance through Industrial Revenue Bonds

More than 70 percent of the county’s nonprofit organizations are health or medical-related organizations, such as the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, American Nurses Association, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. One-third of the nonprofit organizations in Maryland reside in Montgomery County.
