Changing the World From Montgomery County

Montgomery County is an internationally recognized hub for the life sciences - an epicenter for the life sciences- an epicenter for the development of breakthrough technologies.

When scientists announced the first interpretation of the human genome in February 2001, the news came straight from Montgomery County – home of Celera Genomics and the National Institutes of Health, global leaders in human genome research.

DNA Alley – the I-270 Technology Corridor – represents a multitude of resources and brainpower, including research and development organizations, federal government laboratories and regulatory agencies, and top-notch educational institutions. DNA Alley features:

  • Some 200 bioscience firms – 70 percent of Maryland’s bioscience companies.
  • Unmatched concentration of federal research and regulatory agencies.
  • More than 11,000 employees – 65 percent of Maryland’s bioscience workforce.
