SID specializes in designing, developing, and implementing superior quality web based software solutions for commercial enterprises and government agencies. SID has developed several web based COTS tools as solutions for workflow management, document management and tracking systems. SID is motivated to simulate a culture of excellence in it’s performance and software development and is working at Software Engineering Institute’s (SEI) Capability Maturity Model (CMM) level 3. As a result of using the right processes and world class software manufacturing practices, SID enjoys high levels of customer satisfaction. Established in 1999 by two long-time National Institutes of Health researchers, Sherri Bale and John Compton the mission of GeneDx is to provide to the general population the results of medical research that can directly benefit them, but have not until now been available in a clinical diagnostic setting. The Company provides mutation testing in rare disorders for the purpose of diagnosis, carrier detection, and prenatal testing. GeneDx has steadily increased sales revenues since 2000, and revenues are projected to exceed $1.0 million by the end of 2002.GeneDx received the TechnoRisingStar Award from the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development in 2001.

Panacea Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is an emerging biopharmaceutical company focused on utilizing functional genomics and proteomics to develop therapeutic agents and diagnostic tests for diseases with substantial unmet clinical need. The Company's product development focus is on novel proteins and biochemcial pathways related to cellular regulation and cell cycle abnormalities in oncology as well as neuro-degenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.
In April 2002 the Company entered into a Collaboration and License Agreement worth $80 million with MedImmune to conduct critical developmental work in cancer diagnostics and in central nervous system drug development. In May the Company closed on a Series B funding of nearly $3 million. In June Panacea was named “Best Overall Incubator Company” during the 2002 Incubator Companies of the Year Awards sponsored by the Maryland Technology Development Corporation.

Imperium has developed and commercialized the first low cost, high-resolution ultrasonic camera, called Acoustocam. It is meant for real time, subsurface imaging for nondestructive testing and medical applications. Typical images are much better than today’s ultrasonic imaging and at a fraction of the cost. MemberWare Technologies Inc. is a provider of Internet, Intranet, electronic commerce, and document management solutions for federal government agencies and associations. The company specializes in website planning, design, development, implementation and maintenance. MemberWare provides all of the services and products necessary to design, build, reengineer, and maintain interactive websites.

Aptus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. uses its proprietary technologies to develop therapeutics targeting G-Protein Coupled Receptors (GPCRs), the targets of approximately 50% of currently marketed therapeutics. Aptus is also leveraging its assets for use outside of its own drug discovery interests to generate licensing revenues from, or in order to develop strategic partnerships with pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies.

Stemron Corporation is an early-stage biotechnology company with a mission to discover, develop and eventually commercialize cell-based therapeutic products derived from Stemron’s proprietary technology. They have been able to produce pluripotent stem cells without using fetal sources and without cloning, recombination, or other engineered approaches. So far, animal experiments conducted by Stemron indicate that these stem cell lines possess the same characteristics as stem cells generated from embryonic and other classical sources. These “homozygous” pluripotent stem cells can provide a solution to one of the major stumbling blocks of any transplantation therapy - immuno-compatibility. Equally as important, this technology addresses the ethical/political issues currently under active debate.

Therapeutic applications being considered include: blood (bone marrow transplants); pancreatic (diabetes); hepatic (liver deficiencies); neuronal (Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s and Parkinson’s disease); cardiac (chronic heart failure); and musculoskeletal (bone and cartilage injuries and osteoarthritis).

Since its inception in October 2000, Stemron has made significant progress. The company is led by Art Mandell, previously Senior Vice President and Chief Business Officer at Human Genome Sciences, who has extensive management experience in both the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors. Stemron has three principal patent applications that support its core technology, two of which are now published. They have made substantial progress towards replicating its murine success in establishing human cell lines. Stemron is now housed in over 6,000 square feet in Gaithersburg, has completed two rounds of financing, totaling slightly more than $3.4 million, and is now pursuing a Series B financing round to further its development of producing human cell lines and begin testing in animal models.

Galenica Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is developing proprietary drugs. Its principal product development program deals with semi-synthetic and synthetic adjuvants. The family of adjuvants both advances the science in its field and answers a largely unfulfilled need in the vaccine industry. Adjuvants are immune systems stimulants; an effective adjuvant will potentiate the ability of a vaccine to generate a strong immune response. Galenica is developing adjuvants that selectively enhance an effective anitbody immunity or cellular immunity.
