  RENEW MONTGOMERY

The Renew Montgomery Program, unveiled by County Executive Duncan in 1996, is designed to improve the quality of life in Montgomery County and focuses on the refurbishment and replacement of the deteriorating infrastructure in mature neighborhoods. The "facelift" includes the repair and replacement of public sidewalks, curbs and gutters. Other improvements such as storm drain repairs, and tree maintenance can also be included as appropriate. The program is neighborhood-oriented and endeavors to ensure that improvements completed are the priorities of the community, as well as those of the County's desire to renew important components of the infrastructure. This is accomplished by inviting the early participation of community leaders (homeowner or civic association representatives) to provide input for Department staff involved with the repairs. (The goal of the improvements is to assure effective, safe and attractive vehicular and pedestrian access to the business districts and/or local public facilities and recreational opportunities.

The primary criterion for selecting Renew Montgomery neighborhoods is the condition of community infrastructure. Many of these communities require multi-year project activity.
