Needs Program
On February 14, 2003, FF Chris Sarris succumbed
to his battle against colon cancer. Colon cancer has struck our
organization not once but three times in the last five years.
In order to prevent this from happening again, Chris' dad, Mr.
John Aravanis, has started and provided funding for the SCREEN
program. A fund within Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service
has been established to support this program.
This program in partnership with Shady Grove
and Washington Adventist Hospitals, FROMS and IAFF Local 1664,
is focused on raising the level of awareness and education regarding
colon cancer, Fecal Occult Blood Testing and providing funding
assistance to firefighters desiring a colonoscopy not covered
by insurance.
