Project Status and Schedule:

On Friday, October 28, 2016 County officials celebrated the grand opening of the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Academy. The last project in Ike Leggett’s Smart Growth initiative, the facility will allow 3000 public safety employees to be trained annually. This cutting edge facility includes a new 117,000 s.f. Academic Building, a Canine Training Building, a Training Fire Station, High Bay Interior Fire Training Building, two Fire Training “Burn” Buildings, Special Operations – Urban Search and Rescue Training, a police and fire response training Cityscape, a driver training track, a Driver Training Classroom Building and driver training skills pad and skid pan.

The facilities are used to train new fire fighters and police recruits for Montgomery County.

3A-PSTA Academic Building: (119,334 GSF, Building Height = 30’- 8”)

The PSTA Academic building will be a steel frame structure having both one and two story portions.

The firing range, gymnasium and building support portions of the building will be a one story structure consisting of load bearing masonry bearing and shear walls and steel columns. This portion of the structure will be separated from the remaining 2 story steel frame building by a building expansion joint.

The remaining portion of the building is composed of two story areas. The second floor level consists of a concrete slab on composite metal deck.

The roof of the entire building at 2 story and one story portions will be covered by green roof.

3C-PSTA Fire Training Building - Residential (4,850 GSF, Building Height = 29’- 4”) and
3D-PSTA Fire Training Building - Commercial (11,300 GSF, Building Height = 60’- 0”):

There will be two fire training buildings, one simulating a residential structure and the other simulating a commercial structure. Both will be used to conduct live fire training exercises, utilizing controlled propane gas-fired props. The structures will have fires deliberately set in them for the purpose of training able-bodied firefighters in various skills. As a result, the two structures will not have finishes or conventional M/E/P systems. Since operation is smokeless, ???? water ??? will be used for smoke simulation.

3E-PSTA High Bay & Fire Training Support Building (12,000 GSF, Building Height = 51’- 0”):

The high bay support building will be a steel frame structure having a column free interior space. The wall system will be comprised of steel girt members spanning horizontally between building columns providing support for a metal panel exterior cladding.

3F-PSTA Apparatus Building (15,386 GSF, Building Height =26’- 0”):

The Apparatus building consists of a 140’ x 78’ vehicle bay area, with a 40’ x 114’ administrative and support area at the south end. The vehicle bay area will be a one story, column free interior space. The administrative area is a one story structure having a lower roof height than the vehicle bay area. The structure will consist of reinforced masonry exterior walls used as load bearing and lateral shear walls.

3G-PSTA Canine Training Building (6,000 GSF, Building Height = 17’- 8”):

The Canine building is a one story structure consisting of reinforced masonry exterior walls used as load bearing and lateral shear walls.

3KLMNOP-PSTA Multi-use Cityscape Structures (about 12,000 GSF, Building Height = 15’- 0” to 28’- 4”):

The Cityscape structures will be used for training simulation. Wall construction will be load bearing sawn lumber studs with wood sheathing panels for lateral shear walls.

3Q-DOT Vehicle Training Support Building (2,075 GSF, Building Height = 17’- 8”):

The Vehicle Training Support Building will be wood frame construction having load bearing sawn lumber studs with wood sheathing panels for lateral shear walls.

3R-Fuel Facility (2,095 GSF):

The Fuel Facility is a sheltered building which provides fuel for the agencies vehicles located at the site.
