The Montgomery County Solar and Advanced Energy Initiative is helping the County build a healthier community, reduce the impact of our operations on the environment, improve resiliency to a changing climate, spur job creation and reduce operating costs. All with clean energy generated on County properties.

Environmental Benefits

Generate 11 million kilowatt hours of electricity each year. That’s enough electricity to power more than 1,300 single family homes.

Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 9,000 metric tons each year.

Reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking 1,930 cars off the road.

Reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to planting 236,000 trees.

Save $15 million over 20 years. The County has cut costs because the electricity generated by the solar photovoltaic systems is less expensive than other energy supply options.
Create more than 100 new jobs across the supply chain, based on estimates by the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Support local green businesses.
Reduce demand on the utility grid. That means fewer brownouts and blackouts during periods of peak electricity demand.
