West Howard Study Area
At the request of small business owners along West Howard Avenue, DHCA sponsored a study to examine concerns regarding drainage, parking, pedestrian circulation and general urban design. This steep 1/3 mile stretch west of Connecticut Avenue just outside the town limits of Kensington supports antique and design businesses alongside auto repair and other light industrial uses. With much local participation, the West Howard Avenue Urban Design Study was completed in October 2009. Its recommendations were later considered within the Town of Kensington and Vicinity Sector Plan Update, approved by the Maryland – National Capital Park and Planning Commission in March 2012.
