Connecticut Avenue PRSAIn May of 2011, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) conducted a pedestrian road safety audit (PRSA) from Georgia Avenue to Independence Street. Regional partners from the District of Columbia Department of Transportation and the Maryland State Highway Administration (MSHA) also participated in the two-day audit of this ¾-mile stretch of major highway in the Aspen Hill Community. The Connecticut Avenue (MD 185) study area was identified as one of Montgomery County’s High Incidence Areas (HIA) for pedestrian-related collisions, as part of the Montgomery County Executive’s Pedestrian Safety Initiative. Based on collision data provided by the Montgomery County Police Department and the Maryland State Highway Administration, 21 pedestrian collisions and two bicyclist collisions occurred in the study area from January 2005 through December 2009.
