Connecticut Avenue PRSA

In May of 2011, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) conducted a pedestrian road safety audit (PRSA) from Georgia Avenue to Independence Street. Regional partners from the District of Columbia Department of Transportation and the Maryland State Highway Administration (MSHA) also participated in the two-day audit of this ¾-mile stretch of major highway in the Aspen Hill Community.

The Connecticut Avenue (MD 185) study area was identified as one of Montgomery County’s High Incidence Areas (HIA) for pedestrian-related collisions, as part of the Montgomery County Executive’s Pedestrian Safety Initiative.

Since the audit was conducted, MCDOT and the Maryland State Highway Administration have focused on lighting, signals, pavement markings, sidewalks, and signage improvements.
