Reedie Drive PRSA

In April 2010, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT), conducted a Pedestrian Road Safety Audit (PRSA) along an 800-foot stretch of Reedie Drive in Wheaton, Maryland. MCDOT led a multi-disciplinary team of law enforcement and transportation professionals to evaluate pedestrian safety along this roadway, which has been identified as a High Incidence Area for pedestrian collisions.

Since the audit, MCDOT has made the following improvements for pedestrian’s safety:  repaired lighting at the entrance of the Metro Station, and replaced existing drainage grates with compatible grates for bicycles. In 2013, the Reedie Drive Streetscape Plan from Veirs Mill Road to Georgia Avenue updated sidewalks, pavement and crosswalk markings, and installed ADA compliant ramps. In addition, a new planter and a median on Reedie Drive between Grandview Avenue and Triangle Lane were installed to channelize pedestrians to enhanced designated crossings.
