Virtual Pride Month with Councilmember Evan Glass

From a family sing-along, to a panel conversation evaluating LGBTQ+ rights, to storytelling and poetry slam, there will be events for residents of all ages: 

PRIDE Flag Raising Ceremony

  • Councilmember Evan Glass and County Executive Marc Elrich will raise the Pride Flag to officially kick off the Second Annual Montgomery County LGTBQ+ Pride Month events.

Recognition of a Local LGBTQ+ Hero  

  • Councilmember Evan Glass will recognize Dr. Travis Gayles, Montgomery County's Chief Health Officer, as a local LGBTQ+ hero for his dedication and service to Montgomery County during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Marriage Equality and the Supreme Court: 5 years later  

  • Five years ago, history was made with the landmark Obergefell v. Hodges case, which advanced the national fight for marriage equality. Join Councilmember Evan Glass as he moderates a discussion with Doug Hallward-Driemeier, one of the two attorneys in this famous Supreme Court case. This event is in conjunction with the Silver Spring Village, an organization that provides support services to Montgomery County seniors.

Contemporary Conversations with nonbinary trans author, Claire Rudy Foster and found of Lambda Rising, Deacon Maccubbin

  • Named "one of the best LGBTQ books of the year" by Oprah Magazine, Join Councilmember Evan Glass as he moderates a panel with literary giant and nonbinary trans author Claire Rudy Foster, author of "Shine of Ever". Joining the panel will also be Deacon Maccubbin, the founder of LGBT Bookstore Lamba Rising, and one of Montgomery County's own sage local librarians.

Youth Poetry Slam

  • Youth voices matter. Do you know a youth who has something important to say or has wanted to share their poetry or spoken word with the community but never had a platform? Councilmember Evan Glass wants our young people to feel free to express themselves in his first ever youth poetry slam.
