Here's How You can Help

As more refugees resettle to Montgomery County and Maryland, here is a list of organizations working to ensure that our new neighbors feel at home.

  • The International Rescue Committee is headquartered in downtown Silver Spring. They have been supporting the resettlement of Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders in the DMV. IRC has also been collecting gift cards, settling people into homes and mentor families transitioning in the area.

  • I Support the Girls is collecting tens of thousands of bras, new underwear and pads to ensure newly arrived Afghan refugee families in Houston, DC, Seattle, and Denver don’t have to choose between buying food or a pad.

  • CCI Health and Wellness Services is one of the two health centers in the state that is responsible for helping to provide Afghan Refugees with health screenings and access to comprehensive medical care upon arrival to the US.

  • Welcome Us is a coalition of private, nonprofit and government officials who have centralized the various ways we can help welcome refugees. On the site you can find information about volunteering, donating, sponsoring a family or hosting a newcomer through Airbnb.

If you are an organization providing services to refugees and would like to be added to this list, please email our office at councilmember.glass@montgomerycountymd.gov.
