2009 Holiday Impaired Driving Task Force

On Wednesday, November 18, law enforcement agencies within Montgomery County began a multi-jurisdictional task force designed to help ensure that everyone enjoys the upcoming holiday and party season, while remembering the importance of not driving while impaired. This year’s task force is comprised of the 7 full-time members of the Montgomery County Police Alcohol Initiatives Unit, along with representatives from each of the six Montgomery County police districts. They are joined by officers from the Maryland-National Capital Park Police Montgomery County Division, Maryland State Police, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and the Gaithersburg Police Department. Included in this group are a number of officers specially trained as Drug Recognition Experts, who have expertise in detecting violators who are impaired by prescription drugs or illegal substances.

MCP Introduces “Shop with a Cop” Initiative

Montgomery County Police want this upcoming holiday season to be a safe one for shoppers, pedestrians, and drivers in the county. Beginning Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving, the department will kick off its new “Shop with a Cop” initiative. It will run through Christmas Eve December 24.

Officers in all six of the Montgomery County police districts will be detailed to shopping areas in their districts to provide high visibility, extra security, and to provide reminders about driving and pedestrian safety--especially in parking lots. Officers will be distributing approximately 5000 bright green reflective and recyclable shopping bags with a driver and pedestrian safety message printed on them.

Approximately 22% of reported pedestrian collisions in Montgomery County occur in parking lots. Drivers and pedestrians need to watch out for one another. This will be a particularly hectic time in parking lots serving shopping areas. Most shoppers ...more

Update: Second Suspect Arrested for Homicide in Wheaton

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section made an additional arrest for the homicide of a man whose body was found in Wheaton at approximately two minutes after midnight on Wednesday, November 18. The second suspect is the wife of the man who was arrested and charged yesterday for the homicide.

Maria Blanco, age 22, of the 12200 block of Judson Road in Wheaton was charged early this morning with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

Through the course of this investigation it was learned that the victim, Samuel De Jesus Chacon, age 34, of the 8300 block of Verona Drive in New Carrollton, had a child with Maria Blanco. Over the past several years there had been visitation issues between Chacon and Blanco over the couple’s six-year-old child. Rodriguez and Blanco devised a plan to lure Chacon to their residence, and once there stab him to death.

Update: Victim Identified in Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Silver Spring

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are continuing to investigate a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred yesterday evening at approximately 5:56 p.m. near the intersection of 16th Street and Colesville Road in Silver Spring.

The preliminary investigation revealed that William Alexander Guy, age 63, of the 8300 block of 16th Street in Silver Spring, was attempting to cross 16th Street just north of Colesville Road. He crossed the southbound lanes of 16th Street successfully. As he was crossing the northbound lanes of 16th Street he was struck by a black 2002 Mercedes Benz C320 driven by Andrew Pace, age 47, of the 13500 block of Travilah Road in Gaithersburg.

Mr. Guy was transported to Washington Hospital Center where he succumbed to his injuries. Mr. Pace was not injured and remained at the scene.

Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Silver Spring

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred this evening at approximately 5:56 p.m. near the intersection of 16th Street and Colesville Road in Silver Spring.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 63-year-old Silver Spring man was attempting to cross 16th Street just north of Colesville Road. He crossed the southbound lanes of 16th Street successfully. As he was crossing the northbound lanes of 16th Street he was struck by a black 2002 Mercedes Benz C320 driven by a 47-year-old Gaithersburg man.

The pedestrian was transported to Washington Hospital Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Mercedes was not injured and remained at the scene.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section have aggressively investigated the homicide of a man whose body was found in Wheaton at approximately two minutes after midnight this morning. Through the course of the investigation a suspect was identified and taken into custody late this afternoon.

Moises E. Rodriguez, age 19, of the 12200 block of Judson Road in Wheaton was charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

Early this morning, a female motorist saw the unresponsive body of Samuel Dejesus Chacon, age 34, of the 8300 block of Verona Drive in New Carrollton, in the roadway in the 2500 block of Newton Street in the Wheaton-Glenmont area. Fourth District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded. Mr. Chacon was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section continue to investigate the death of a man whose body was found in Wheaton at approximately two minutes after midnight this morning. The preliminary results from the Medical Examiner’s office have determined the manner of death to be homicide.

The victim was identified as Samuel Dejesus Chacon, age 34, of the 8300 block of Verona Drive in New Carrollton, Maryland.

Early this morning, a female motorist saw an unresponsive body in the roadway in the 2500 block of Newton Street in the Wheaton-Glenmont area. Fourth District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The body was then transported for autopsy to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section are investigating the suspicious death of a man whose body was found in Wheaton at approximately two minutes after midnight this morning.

A female motorist saw an unresponsive body in the roadway in the 2500 block of Newton Street in the Wheaton Glenmont area. Fourth District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The body will be transported for autopsy to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore to determine the cause and manner of death.

The identity of the adult victim will be released later today after family members have been notified. Anyone who has any information about this death is asked to call Homicide detectives at 240-773-5070.

Update: Arrest Made For Rape in Aspen Hill

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section have arrested and charged a juvenile as an adult with numerous offenses related to the rape and robbery of a woman in Aspen Hill on Saturday, November 14.

Through the course of the investigation, Tyree Echols, age 15, of the 2200 block of Georgian Woods Place in Wheaton, was developed as a suspect. Last night, Echols was arrested in the area of Georgia Avenue and Shorefield Road in Wheaton and charged with first-degree rape, attempted first-degree rape, robbery, and first-degree assault.

He is being held on a no bond status at the Montgomery County Police Detention Center.

On Saturday, November 14, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a 24-year-old female victim exited a Ride On bus at a stop on Bel Pre Road near Grand Pre Road in Wheaton. She was followed off of the bus by a suspect who grabbed her from behind and dragged her into a wooded area. It was there that ...more
