Public Hearing December 1: Proposed Ride On Fare Change (monthly pass)

Ride On's monthly pass is proposed to rise in cost by $5

The Montgomery County Council will hold a public meeting about a proposal to raise the cost of Ride On’s monthly pass by $5, from $25 to $30, beginning January 1, 2010. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 1 starting 1:30 p.m. in the 3rd Floor Hearing Room of the Council Office Building, 100 Maryland Avenue, Rockville. NOTE: If there are a large number of speakers, the hearing may be extended to the evening, starting at 7:30 p.m.

New Traffic Pattern on Montrose Parkway and Montrose Road

The Montrose Parkway West underpass will soon open beneath Rockville Pike. Montrose Road traffic will no longer be able to cross the Pike.

On or about November 20th, the State Highway Administration (MSHA) will significantly shift traffic patterns at the new interchange at Rockville Pike and Montrose Road.

Here’s what you need to know:

1) Those traveling to Randolph Road from the west, such as from I-270, will need to use Montrose Parkway, which begins near Tilden Lane, angling to the right off of Montrose Road..

2) MCDOT will be opening the last segment of Montrose Parkway between East Jefferson and Old Georgetown Road. Eastbound Parkway traffic will have direct access past East Jefferson, past Old Georgetown Road, and onto the new underpass beneath Rockville Pike. Traffic wi ...more

Power Outage Persists at Metropolitan Parking Garage in Bethesda

The power outage that occurred at the Metropolitan Garage, 7601 Woodmont Avenue, in Bethesda Wednesday afternoon during routine maintenance work continues. The Division of Parking Management has established limited power to the garage using generators while repair work to electrical circuits continues. Due to the need to order special electrical parts, the garage may be operating on only back-up power sources until next week.

Only two of the garage's four elevators are currently working. Because interior lighting is less than normal, additional security patrols have been established.

Leaf Collection Starts November 9

Division of Highway Services crews pick up leaves in the leaf collection district, where residents pay an additional fee for the annual service

The Division of Highway Services (DHS) will conduct its annual vacuum collection of leaves in the southern part of the county from November 9 through mid-December. DHS makes two collections on every street in the vacuum leaf collection district during the fall.

Residents should look for signs posted along the streets announcing the collection dates in their neighborhoods. Green signs indicate the first collection, and red signs indicate the second and final collection.

County Traffic Signal Computer Problem Resolved; Friday Rush Hour Should Improve but Ride On will again be Free

MCDOT has successfully resolved the problem with its malfunctioning traffic signal computer. Engineers reestablished the connection between the computer and the traffic signals early in the evening (November 5th). Most intersection signals are now responding to commands issued at the Division of Traffic Operations's Transportation Management Center.

Though the traffic signal communication system appears to be fixed, engineers continue to work on individual signals that are not consistently responding. Engineers will continue to monitor the situation throughout the evening and overnight but anticipate that tomorrow morning’s (November 6) rush hour will be much smoother.
