Montgomery County, Maryland Web Site Ranked Top in Nation by Computerworld Magazine

The Montgomery County Web Site, www.montgomerycountymd.gov, was recently ranked by Computerworld Magazine as the best Web Site in the nation for Counties with populations of more than 250,000.

The National Policy Research Council (NPRC -- www.nprcouncil.com), a non-partisan think tank, examined the Web presence of all 50 states and 38,987 counties, municipalities and townships in the U.S. Trained NPRC reviewers reviewed 11,227 official state and local government Web sites and evaluated them for usability, citizen responsiveness, accessibility for disabled visitors, information tools, online procurement, job opportunities, and interactive permits and payments. No surveys were involved.

Montgomery County, Maryland’s Web Site received a grade of A+ and ranked first with 25 out of 28 points, followed by the official Web Site of Alameda County, California with 24 points. Tied for third place with 23 points were two California jurisdictions – Los Angeles and Sacramento -- and two Florida counties – Broward and Seminole.

“This is a wonderful achievement and I am thrilled by this ranking from Computerworld Magazine. We work very hard to make services and information easily accessible on the web site,” said Alisoun Moore, Chief Information Officer for Montgomery County.

The ranking appeared in the Computerworld/National Policy Research Council’s "E-Government 2006 Report.”

Earlier this year, Montgomery County, Maryland moved into third place in an annual ranking of the top-10 most technologically-advanced, cutting-edge county governments in the United States. The ranking was compiled by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of counties (NACo). Last year, Montgomery ranked fifth in the nation among jurisdictions with populations of half-million or more.
