County Gears Up for 2008 AT&T National; Emphasis on “Behind the Scenes” Efforts

Montgomery County agencies and departments have been gearing up over the past few weeks to put their skill and expertise to work to ensure a safe, easy and fun experience for visitors at this year’s AT&T National, a PGA TOUR tournament, being held July 2-6, at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.

“Hosting a premiere, professional sporting event like the AT&T National is indeed an honor and a privilege for the County,” said County Executive Isiah Leggett. “However, it is also a big responsibility from a logistical standpoint and requires a great deal of planning and coordination by many County departments and individuals to ensure success at every level.”

“As in past years, the Department of Public Works and Transportation actively supports the tournament. We coordinate with our Police and Fire Departments and the tournament organizers to assure that visitors have a positive experience, using our high technology transportation management systems to effectively manage traffic,” said Arthur Holmes, Director, Department of Public Works and Transportation.

“We are happy to be in Montgomery County,” Tiger Woods Foundation (TWF) President and Tournament Director Greg McLaughlin said. “We think it is a great location to host our second annual AT&T National.”

“As a Vietnam War veteran, I am particularly moved by the sincere initiatives of Tiger Woods and the Tiger Woods Foundation to recognize, honor and thank fellow members of the military for their past and continued service,” said Leggett.
