When you order a replacement recycling bin, we are happy to take your old, broken bin back with us. To request a bin pickup with your order:

  • check the pickup request box on the bin order page
  • then, set your old bin in front of your home so that our driver will see it from the street

To request a bin pickup without ordering a new bin, please call our Customer Service staff at 240-777-6410 to request a bin pickup.

Shady Grove Transfer Station and Recycling Center

Old recycling bins are accepted in the Administrative Offices of both the Solid Waste Transfer Station (16101 Frederick Road, Derwood, MD 20855) and the Recycling Center (16105 Frederick Road, Derwood, MD 20855), both located in the same complex, just south of the intersection of Shady Grove and Frederick Roads.

You may also obtain new bins from these offices.

The offices are open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What happens to old recycling bins?

We recycle them! We pack the bins we collect onto pallets, and ship them to a plastics processor. The processor grinds up the bins, and uses them to make new plastic products.
