How to recycle/dispose of oil, cooking / vegetable

Curbside collection: No
County facilities accepting oil, cooking / vegetable:
* Solid Waste Transfer Station

Residents may bring up to 5 gallons of cooking or vegetable oil to the Shady Grove Transfer Station.

  • Go to the Recycling section of the Public Unloading Area.
  • Hand your cooking oil or vegetable oil to one of the Recycling attendants.

So that the oil may be recycled, please do not mix it with any other fluids.

What do I do with plastic cooking or vegetable oil bottles?

We accept all plastic bottles with narrow necks. You may put these into your recycling collection at home. They are also accepted at the Transfer Station.

What happens to the oil?

The oil is reused. Some of it is turned into animal feed. And, some of it is turned into biodiesel fuel. Learn more about biodiesel.
