Some older Ride On buses will be replaced using stimulus funds
The County is obtaining final approvals to purchase 13 replacement buses and software upgrades to its dispatch center with federal stimulus funds.
The Division of Transit Services has requested $6.9 million to purchase 12 hybrid diesel-electric buses and one clean diesel bus to replace older buses in the fleet plus purchase the new computer software. Each hybrid bus costs a little over $500,000 due to the sophisticated technology involved with hybrid engineering. The clean diesel bus will run about $344,000. The software upgrade, costing $350,000, will allow the division to more efficiently manage work assignments and daily dispatch of buses. It will allow schedule adjustments to be made in real time as events dictate.
