Seven Locks Road Paving***(CORRECTION: schedule of work)

Paving work will occur at night to minimize disruptions to traffic on Seven Locks Road

The Division of Highway Services plans to make road repairs and repaving of Seven Locks Road from Bradley Boulevard to Democracy Boulevard next spring.  This pavement preservation project is intended to enhance and preserve the roadway for many years to come.

Several years ago, the County Executive called for a more systematic approach to maintaining the County’s transportation infrastructure.  In general he has called for the use of data-driven methods to ensure that services are provided in the most effective and efficient way.  MCDOT responded by developing a process that involved rating County roads based upon condition.

Every County road has now been rated using a formula-based scoring system.  Roads in good condition will be preserved with pavement sealing techniques.  Roads in fair condition will receive more extensive treatment including a new top layer of hot mix asphalt.  Roads in poor condition will require major reconstruction before resurfacing.

Overall, pavement conditions of Seven Locks Road were generally rated as fair, with some areas described as needing more attention.  Initially, Highway crews will address pavement surface cracks on Seven Locks using crack sealants.  Roadway patching where needed will be done, followed by resurfacing with hot mix asphalt.  To minimize the impacts on traffic on this major north-south thoroughfare, paving work will be done at night.  The project manager is James Kisner (240.777.7631).

The project was initially scheduled to start this fall, but recent scheduling adjustments within the overall paving program caused some projects to be delayed.  For this project, MCDOT was concerned that a fall start on such an important and heavily travelled artery could run into unfavourable weather which would inordinately extend the work timeframe.  For more information on resurfacing programs, visit the Division of Highway Services's website.  To report specific road repairs needed, such as potholes, call the MCDOT Customer Service Center at 240.777.6000 or email Highway Services.
