County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill three vacancies on the Taxicab Services Advisory Committee. The vacancies are for a taxicab industry/management representative and two general public members. The taxicab industry representative is eligible to apply for reappointment.
The purpose of the nine member Taxicab Services Advisory Committee is to advise the Department of Transportation director in carrying out the duties and functions involving taxicab regulation, and to evaluate the performance of the taxicab industry in serving members of the population with special transportation needs, such as senior citizens and people with disabilities. Four members of the Committee represent the taxicab industry (two should represent management and two should be taxicab drivers); and five members represent the general public (one should represent seniors and one people with disabilities).
Members serve three-year terms without compensation. Meetings are held at least quarterly in the evening in the Executive Office Building in Rockville.
Applicants of diverse backgrounds, professions, gender, geography, disability and ethnicity are encouraged to apply. Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time. Members of this Committee are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Leggett’s appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.
