Assisted Living for Seniors (HHS) Assisted Living provides housing and support for activities of daily living such as eating, dressing, grooming, walking, getting in and out of bed, bathing, toileting or taking prescription medications. In Montgomery County, assisted living services can be provided in large high-rise facilities of 100-200 residents or in small home-like facilities of 1-16 residents. Assisted living facilities of three or more residents are licensed by both the state and county.

Design For Life Montgomery (HHS) Design for Life Montgomery is the first voluntary certification program in Maryland for Visit-Ability and Live-Ability in single family attached and detached homes located in Montgomery County. Its guidelines apply to both new construction and renovation of existing homes. Whether you are a first time homebuyer, young family, career professional, active adult, or person living with a temporary or permanent disability, your home will be enhanced by these additional design features which will meet your needs throughout your life.

Home Energy Assistance Program (HHS) The Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP) helps eligible families with the cost of winter heating. The amount of your MEAP grant is based on your income and the type of fuel used for heat. The grant is a one time only payment per heating season and is intended to cover part of your heating costs. Your MEAP grant is sent directly to your heating supplier.
Homeless Services (HHS) Staff coordinates referrals, placements, and oversees services for homeless families placed in emergency shelters and motels. The emergency shelter system for families consists of shelters and motels under contract for placements of homeless families.
Housing Crisis Intervention & Prevention (HHS) Provides services that include emergency financial assistance and/or shelter to families or adults who are homeless or at high risk of losing their home, victims of individual or community disaster, or persons stranded away from home.
Income Assistance (HHS) Provides benefits to eligible residents in the form of temporary cash assistance, food stamps, medical assistance and transitional emergency medical and housing assistance.
Nursing Home Ombudsman (HHS) The nursing home ombudsman program operates through a cadre four professional staff and trained volunteers each assigned to one of the 39 nursing homes in Montgomery County. The nursing home ombudsman identifies, investigates and resolves complaints made by or on behalf of residents that relate to the action, inaction or decisions in the nursing home that may adversely affect the health, safety, welfare or rights of the residents. The nursing home ombudsman also provides information and assistance to help families make informed decisions before selecting a nursing home.
