Statement On Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC)
I have joined with Senator Mikulski and Congressman Van Hollen in working to insure that monies from the recently passed Federal stimulus legislation come to Montgomery County. We know that without the Federal government’s help we cannot make the repairs that are necessary and that there are future incidents that are waiting to happen.
The WSSC serves more than 1.8 million residents in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. I am concerned that the two counties often have disagreed on the level of funding needed to address each counties infrastructure needs. We need to examine the organizational structure of the WSSC to determine whether a bi-county approach to our water main infrastructure is tenable going forward.
