DISTRICT 1

District 1 includes the communities of Bethesda, Cabin John, Chevy Chase, Garrett Park, Glen Echo, Friendship Heights, North Bethesda, Potomac, Randolph Hills, and Somerset.

The most geographically diverse of the Districts, District 1 encompasses urban centers, suburban communities, rural countryside, and numerous National and County parks and trails. Residents enjoy proximity to historic Glen Echo Park, the C&O Canal towpath, and the Capital Crescent Trail in addition to an array of other outdoor recreational options including golf courses, tennis and ice skating facilities, a riding stable, a family-oriented nature center and numerous athletic fields.

Montgomery County Public Schools are consistently recognized nationally for their extraordinary achievements. According to Newsweek Magazine, four District 1 MCPS High Schools are ranked in the Top 100 year after year including Bethesda Chevy Chase, Walt Whitman, Walter Johnson and Winston Churchill.

A favorite destination for cultural events, the communities in District 1 are home to some of the most acclaimed professional theatres in the Metro DC area including Round House Theatre, the Bethesda Theater, and the more family-friendly venues of Imagination Stage, Adventure Theater, and the Glen Echo Puppet Company. The Music Center at Strathmore, home to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in North Bethesda, offers a diverse performing arts program including chamber, jazz, and folk music, art exhibitions and

literary events. The District is also well known for its diverse cuisine from casual to fine dining as well as a wide variety of retail shopping.

One of the world's leading biomedical research centers, District 1 is noted as the home of the National Institute of Health, National Library of Medicine and the National Naval Medical Center where our service-members and President's medical needs are met. Other public services include numerous libraries, and public transit including Metro's Red Line and Ride-On buses.
