September is National Preparedness Month

Office of Emergency Preparedness and Homeland Security Offers Activities:

September is National Preparedness Month, and the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (OEMHS) encourages residents to learn more about preparedness, and to plan ahead for weather and other emergencies. During the month, the OEMHS will participate in the following events and activities:

September 20 - Citizen Corps Council Kick-Off Meeting
The Citizen Corps Council (CCC) is a place for networking, exchanging ideas, and building partnerships with the common goal of making Montgomery County more prepared and resilient in the face of an emergency. The CCC provides opportunities for residents to participate in a range of measures to make their families, their homes, and their communities safer from the threats of crime, terrorism, and disasters of all kinds.

September 21 - Public Safety Headquarters Open House
OEMHS will have a booth at this open house, along with our colleagues from various other departments.

  • Time: 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Location: Public Safety Headquarters, 100 Edison Park Drive, Gaithersburg, MD 20878

September 28 - Burtonsville Day
OEMHS will have a table at this community event with information.

OEMHS staff members are also available throughout the year to meet with civic and faith-based groups, and school groups.  The Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security will also be conducting training sessions and an exercise for county employees that involve sheltering people and pets.
