PART-TIME CONTRACTUAL PAID INTERN – BI-LINGUAL
SPECIAL MAGISTRATES/TRUST OFFICE

DEFINITION OF CLASS

This position is a temporary paid contractual position responsible for assisting the Special Magistrates and the Trust Office. Various duties may include the following: creating, organizing and/or entering information into databases; photocopying; reviewing case files; delivering court files to various departments; and/or assisting customers. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in, and enthusiasm for, the judicial system and/or public service.

To be successful, the individual in this position must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This reflects management’s assignment of essential functions. It is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities and does not prescribe or restrict various additional diversified tasks and assignments that may be required by Judicial Officers and/or the Court Administrator.

EXAMPLE OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Review pleadings for legal sufficiency and contact counsel or self-represented litigants to bring deficient filings into compliance with the law and rules of procedure.
  • Compose correspondence in response to inquiries based upon independent research and compilation of data from files, records, and various databases.
  • Telephone and in-person contact with attorneys, litigants and the general public, providing assistance or information as appropriate.
  • Excellent organizational and customer service skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Competence and temperament to interact professionally and courteously with the legal community, in-house court personnel, and the general public.
  • Fluency in both written and oral Spanish language. 
  • Maintain a regular, punctual and reliable level of attendance.
  • Ability to handle stress and maintain a professional demeanor when dealing with court personnel and the public at all times.
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of judgment, tact, diplomacy and competence in dealing with judges, attorneys, court personnel and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • High school graduate with minimum of three years experience in the legal field.  Paralegal certificate is desirable, but not required.
