Silver Spring Civic Building

Project Description:

The Silver Spring Civic Building will become the center of community activities and events in downtown Silver Spring. Managed and scheduled by the County government and the Community Use of Public Facilities, the building will provide community meeting space, a multi-media resource center, and office space for the Silver Spring Regional Services Center staff. The Civic Building will be located adjacent to the proposed Veterans' Plaza, which will provide outdoor space for community events such as outdoor concerts, movies and other public events. This project is part of a multi-project effort by Montgomery County to support the retail-oriented redevelopment of the Silver Spring Central Business District (CBD).
The Veterans Plaza will be a large public open space that will be programmed for festivals and concerts. The Plaza also contains a pavilion covering and a permanent ice skating rink. The Veterans Plaza will include a memorial commemorating the service of veterans of Silver Spring and Montgomery County. The memorial will be art work by Toby Mendez (a Frederick County artist who did the Thurgood Marshall Memorial at the State Capitol).

A large Great Hall will be available for banquets, performances and other meetings and presentations. There will be four other community use rooms including a gallery space. The Silver Spring Regional Center will be located in the upper floor of the Civic Building. Round House Theatre School will be located in the lower level of the Civic Building.
