General information about animals at the animal shelter

  • Each year, more than 10,000 animals come into the Montgomery County animal shelter. While some of these pets are lost pets that are eventually reunited with their owners, many of them are animals which need new homes.

  • The Division of Animal Control and Humane Treatment provides for the care and adoption of shelter animals through a contract with the Montgomery County Humane Society, Inc. Under that contract, the Humane Society provides care for all shelter animals, matches shelter pets with lost pet reports, coordinates the adoption program, and provides other services necessary for the operation of the animal shelter.
