About the Upcounty Center

Upcounty Regional Services CenterT he Upcounty Regional Services Center (URSC) is one of five full-service MontgomeryCounty outreach offices. The Upcounty Center is the largest of the five centers with 100,000 sq. ft. of space, and 16 agencies (see "Services at the Center" for a complete listing). The URSC provides services for citizens and businesses of northern Montgomery County.

The Center's service area is the largest of the five centers with 250 sq. miles or one-half of the County's land area. The Center's service population is 300,000 people in several communities, including, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Clarksburg, Damascus, Goshen, Laytonsville, Derwood, North Potomac, Darnestown, Boyds, Montgomery Village, Barnesville, Dickerson, Poolesville, Washington Grove, Beallsville, Hyattstown and Tobytown.

The Upcounty Regional Services Center is a full-service center with something for everyone in the community, including recreation and parks offices, health and human service agencies, a day care center, and regional offices of the Montgomery County Public Schools. In order to promote tourism, the Montgomery County Conference and Visitors Bureau is strategically located in the Center, along with the Germantown Chamber of Commerce. Over 3,500 people a day visit the Center, which translates to over 1,000,000 people a year. The Center also averages 150 meetings per month in its four meeting rooms that are available for public use. The Center is open six days a week, Monday through Saturday. Monday through Friday, the Center is open from 7:45 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

The Upcounty Regional Services Center is graced with a 13-foot high sculpture that was crafted by nationally known sculptor, George Greenamyer, from Marshfield, Massachusetts. The sculpture, titled "Old Germantown -- 1920," is made of forged steel, and is based on historic photos of the area. It serves as a gateway from the past to the present as you enter the Upcounty Regional Services Center. It depicts a locomotive steam engine, the Germantown rail station, the Liberty Mill, a coal truck, the general store, and local residents, circa 1920. It illustrates the three hearts of the community -- transportation, labor, and commerce. To add to its beauty, the sculpture is lighted from within at night.
