Benefits

Walking To WorkBiking and walking to work are healthy ways to make your daily commute. These cost even less than driving or taking transit and get you in shape! They also reduce pollution and congestion, enhancing our quality of life. Some employers offer incentives to employees who bike or walk to work - like bike repairs or free walking shoes. Let our marketing specialist, serving your location, talk to your employer on your behalf. And remember - Ride On and Metrobus have bike racks, so you can bike or walk part way and transit the rest.

WABA's Bicycle Maps Online! The Bicycle Commuter Assistance Program is an interactive bicycle route mapping guide that provides detailed maps online and commuter information. Use it to find the most popular bike trails or the most convenient routes to your destination in the Washington area. The maps show all the area bike trails and bike shops, and will eventually show the best commuter routes.

Bike to Work Day

On the 3rd Friday of May each year, nearly a thousand happy cyclists pedal to work in Montgomery County for the Annual Bike To Work Day celebration.  "Pit Stop" events offered early morning camaraderie, enthusiasm, and refreshments for all participants.  Montgomery County had seven "pit stops."  There were prize drawings for bicycles and many other valuable prizes for participants.

Cyclists at the various pit stops are frequently cheered on by dignitaries which include State and Local Elected Officials, the Montgomery County Executive and County Council Members.

Awards presented at the various pit stops included those for the "Longest Distance Commuted by Bike," and the "Most Committed Bicycle Commuter."  The City of Rockville held its first Commuter Cup Challenge, a pit stop-to-pit stop race between a bicycle and a city-owned vehicle.  The bicycle won!

Walk to Work

Consider walking to work from your home or, if that’s not possible, from a transit stop. You’ll breathe better, be calmer, and return to your assignments with renewed vigor and enthusiasm for life.

Employer Amenities

Ask CSS about amenities that employers may provide, such as bike racks or lockers, or free walking shoes.
