Voting Rights in Maryland

 

You have the right to vote in a Maryland election if:

 

You are a citizen of the United States;

ü     You are a resident of the State of Maryland;

ü     You will be at least 18 years of age before the next General Election; and

ü     You are a registered voter

 

 

As a registered voter in the State of Maryland, you have the right to:

 

ü     Vote and have your vote be accurately counted;

ü     Cast a ballot secretly and independently at a polling place;

ü     Have voting be as convenient and accessible as possible;

ü     Vote if you are in line at your polling place at 8:00 p.m. on Election Day;

ü     Ask for and receive assistance and instructions for voting;

ü     Cast a provisional ballot if your eligibility to vote is questioned;

ü     Vote in a polling place free from discrimination, intimidation, threats or coercion;

ü     Have your vote counted and, if necessary, recounted using a uniform and statewide standard; and

ü     Have complaints about an alleged voting rights violation resolved fairly, accurately, and efficiently

 

 

Under State and federal law, a voter shall not willfully and knowingly:

 

ü    Impersonate another person in order to vote or attempt to vote

ü    Vote or attempting to vote under a false name

ü    Vote or attempt to vote more than once in the same election

ü    Influence or attempt to influence a voter’s voting decision through the use of force, threat, menace, intimidation, bribery, reward, or offer of reward
