After the startup of the Honor Guard, Captain Griff Livingston
(Ret.) talked about obtaining a Chevy Suburban to be used
solely by the Honor Guard. The Honor Guard had performed
so many functions throughout Maryland and neighboring states,
that, in order to get personnel and equipment to a function,
meant using various Fire Department automobiles. In many
cases, MFF Pat McTighe's Chevy Suburban was used.
In early 1996 Captain Livingston was able to obtain a
1988 Chevrolet Suburban with 4 wheel drive that was turned
into the County Fleet Reserve. The Suburban had been assigned
to Kensington Volunteer Fire Department in Montgomery County.

First Honor Guard Vehicle
The vehicle was in relatively good condition, needing some
minor mechanical work, as well as some rust and body work.
At a monthly meeting, Honor Guard personnel were asked for
ideas and input about the newly acquired Suburban. The consensus
was to duplicate MFF McTighe's Suburban by painting the
vehicle black and adding running boards and aluminum alloy
wheels.
These ideas were accepted and Capt. Livingston asked MFF
McTighe to take the lead in getting estimates for the paint
job and equipment needed. The Honor Guard was kept up to
date on any progress made on the Suburban and input was
obtained on lettering and placement of emergency lights
, etc. These ideas were then incorporated into the Suburban.

In
1998 all the work was completed and the Honor Guard Suburban
proudly escorted the Team in the Maryland State Firefighters
Association Parade held in Ocean City, MD in June.
Recently a new Ford Expedition was acquired to be used as
the Honor Guard vehicle. The Montgomery County Fire Rescue
Service Communications Division has given this vehicle the
radio call identification known as "HG1." It is currently
housed at Fire Station 31. Honor Guard members are responsible
for cosmetic maintenance. The vehicle is always ready and
accessible for use by any team member for any function we
are asked to participate in.
Below are some recent pictures of the new HG1.
