Emergency Services - To Alleviate or Prevent Housing Crisis Situations

The Emergency Services Program (Crisis Intervention) alleviates or prevents primarily housing-related crisis situations for Montgomery County residents. To learn more about any of the following services, please call the phone numbers listed below.

 Housing Crisis Intervention Services

Staff provides services that include emergency financial assistance and/or shelter to families or adults who are homeless or at high risk of losing their home, victims of individual or community disaster, or persons stranded away from home. Assistance may be for rental deposits, past due rent, past due utilities, moving or storage costs and emergency shelter placement. Assistance is also available for burial expenses.

 Welfare Avoidance Grant (WAG)

A Welfare Avoidance Grant is a lump sum assistance payment provided to customers who are technically eligible for Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) and who have an immediate crisis that is preventing them from working. Staff identifies customers for whom WAGs can be used instead of TCA to handle an employment-related crisis that might otherwise result in job loss, or to obtain employment. Examples of crises include leaving a job due to difficulties meeting day care expenses, or transportation problems created by non-traditional work hours or a remote job location.

  Employment Support Grant (ESG)

The Employment Support Grant is given to TCA recipients in need of financial support for employment-related expenses and emergencies. Grant limit is $500.00 and is available one time only. Examples are short-term training/educational sources, transportation, child care or any other employment need.
