CRISIS CENTER Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM)
The Crisis Center provides stress management to groups following traumatic or critical incidents. Although the incidents may be fatal or life threatening events, they can be any event that has been traumatic for the people who were involved. We also respond to groups who have experienced a series of major changes that have resulted in intense stress reactions.
Between February 1990 and September 2000, staff have responded to 236 critical incidents, including reactions to murder and suicide as well as plane, train, and automobile accidents. The groups have ranged in size from 2 to 500. Frequently, interventions are in response to requests from police or fire department personnel; but they are also available to schools, community groups, public and private agencies, and individuals. A nominal fee is charged for responses to for-profit businesses and for interventions outside Montgomery County.
