Linkages to Learning is a collaborative initiative among the Montgomery County Public Schools, Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, and private community providers. It was developed in the early 1990's to address the complex social and mental health needs of an increasingly diverse, transient and impoverished population in Montgomery County, Maryland. |

| In 1998, the Linkages Resource Team, with representatives from the public school system, private agencies and Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, was established to enhance shared decision making, strategic planning and leadership. | ||

| Linkages to Learning staff represent different cultures and languages and are sensitive to the ethnic diversity of the community. | ||
| Referral Process | ||
| Referrals may come from designated school staff, the school nurse,
or families may self-refer. Referrals are not required at the School
Health Services Center. |

| Program Effectiveness | ||
| A 1999 research project, funded by the U.S. Department of Education
and conducted by the University of Maryland, demonstrated Linkages to Learning
services at Broad Acres increased student performance and supported family functioning.
