HALLOWEEN: Activities and Events for Kids of All Ages
For kids small and large, there are many Halloween happenings around the County with fun events for toddlers, teens, adults and seniors. Many of these activities are free, and several have a high spook factor.
• Therapeutic Recreation Haunted House Dance, Oct. 28: For those aged 15-and above with disabilities, prizes for most creative costumes, disc jockey and refreshments. Holiday Park Senior Center, 7-10 p.m. Bring ID, no advance registration required. |

The visions of County Executives Charles Gilchrist and Doug Duncan proved prophetic as the wide-ranging diversity center helps more than 1,500 people a month from 60 countries acclimate to a new life in America.

FITNESS: Hike Sugarloaf Mountain and See the Region’s Fall Foliage
What a great way for the entire family to see the turning of leaves, and the seasons . . . with a 2 1/2-mile hike up Sugarloaf Mountain. This adventure takes only three hours and is suitable for all ages accustomed to hiking.

Everyone likes puppets and now kids aged 6-12 can make their own puppets, backdrop and have a showall in one fun class.

• Oct. 7-Nov.26: Chrysanthemum Display, Brookside Gardens, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Free.
• Oct. 20: Registration deadline for 65-plus basketball. This is a "draft league" with games played at the Bauer Drive Community Center. For further info contact John Rice (301-231-7822) or Bill Tait (301-881-0250).
• Oct 28: Muddy Branch Greenway Trail contruction, lend a helping hand. More info.

• Lifeguards/Pools:There are openings for part-time temporary workers at indoor pools for lifeguards, instructors, cashiers, and swim coaches. Retraining available. For more information, contact a facility supervisor at the indoor pool nearest you, or call the Aquatics office at 240-777-6860.
• Volunteers in the Parks: Volunteers needed for many Halloween events, trail clean-ups and construction, Brookside’s Garden of Lights and more. Call Montgomery Parks volunteer services at 301-495-2504 or visit Montgomery Parks on the web.
• Youth Sports Referees: For games on Saturdays, training available. Call 240-777-6965.
