County Volunteer Center Recognized It's Achievements

In recognition of its significant role in promoting volunteering and community service, the Montgomery County Volunteer Center has received the 2008 Andrea Jolly President’s Award from the Corporate Volunteer Council of Montgomery County (CVC).

The Montgomery County Volunteer Center links people and groups who want to volunteer with nonprofits and government agencies needing volunteers, professional services, and in-kind contributions.   The center also promotes volunteering and service, recognizes exemplary volunteer service, and helps nonprofits effectively utilize and retain volunteers.

The CVC is made up of area business leaders who work together to further employee volunteering and community engagement.  The council educates businesses on how to partner with and support non-profit organizations by helping create successful volunteer/charitable programs that positively impact the business, its employees and the community.

In presenting the award at the organization’s annual meeting, CVC President Mark Edward of BDO Seidman stressed the importance of the Volunteer Center.  “The center is a critical link to bringing the business community and nonprofits together with County government. During our long relationship with the Volunteer Center we have been very impressed with their work.”

Accepting the award, Volunteer Center Director Reed Dewey said, “During these challenging times, we are working hard to position volunteering even more as an essential way for businesses and other concerned groups to help nonprofits meet the immediate needs of the community.” Dewey also emphasized that, “Creative approaches to employee volunteering will be required – not only with providing direct services, but also in providing nonprofits with skilled volunteers to help in such areas as IT, strategic planning, public relations, and board service.”

“Montgomery County is such a special place because our residents have a tradition of rolling up their sleeves and helping their neighbors. The Volunteer Center is a critical player in building this culture of service,” stated Bruce Adams, director of the County Executive’s Office of Community Partnerships which includes the Volunteer Center.
