African American CommunityMontgomery County is home to over 132,000 African American residents, or over 15% of the County's population. Between 2000 and 2006, the County's Black and African American increased significantly (43%) much more than Marylands Black and African American Population (24%). OCP is committed to bringing together this vibrant community to tackle issues of common concerns. We will work closely with residents and community groups to address some common barriers to these communities including language access, connection with government and other communities, service delivery to these communities, and a range of other issues identified from the Leadership Summit in October 2007. 2000 U.S. Census and 2007 American Community SurveyCensus 2010
Share information about the Census among the community and help make sure everyone is counted! Census data are used to distribute Congressional seats to states, to make decisions about what community services to provide, and to distribute $400 billion in federal funds to local, state and tribal governments each year allocate state legislative districts and draw County Council districts.
Reverend Tim Warner Community Liaison
Reverend Tim Warner comes to the work of the County Executive's Office of Community Partnerships Liaison for Faith Communities and African Americans as he continues to serve as Sr. Pastor of Community of Faith Methodist Church of Boyds, MD. Tim served for seven prior years as the Associate Council Director for Community and Economic Development in the Baltimore Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church, and led ministries of community and economic development, such as Shalom Zones, while managing the Conferences relationship with the Zimbabwe Episcopal Area. He is trained as a bacterial geneticist, and enjoyed a productive career in pharmaceutical research and development, having held various scientific and executive leadership positions for over 18 years before committing to full-time ministry.
