Gaithersburg West

The proposed Gaithersburg West Master Plan addresses a large area near Shady Grove Road, Darnestown Road and Muddy Branch Road. The plan includes already developed areas, such as Shady Grove Hospital, and yet-to-be developed areas, such as Belward Farm. Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland have indicated intent to expand into specially designated areas in the plan known as Life Sciences District that would increase Montgomery County’s already strong position as a national leader as home to the biotech industry.

The County Council’s Planning, Housing and Economic Development Committee has been evaluating various aspects of the Gaithersburg West Master Plan, which will eventually be considered by the full Council.
