Montgomery County's Green Economy Task Force
The County Executive has appointed a Green Economy Task Force to work closely with the Departments of Economic Development and Environmental Protection. Task force members include leaders drawn from a variety of business, financial, academic and professional organizations. Over the coming months, the task force will provide expert guidance and input as the County develops a comprehensive green economic development strategy. Once the strategy is finalized, task force members, as well as members of a larger green economy advisory council, will play an important role in helping the county achieve the strategy’s goals and objectives.
The task force roster, meeting schedule and agendas, and other task force related documents can be accessed by clicking on the links in the right hand column.
The Green Economy Task Force will coordinate its work with the County’s Sustainability Working Group (SWG), a legislatively created group tasked with identifying actions the County can take to meet its goal of reducing greenhouse emissions to 80 percent below 2005 levels by the year 2050. The SWG submitted a Climate Action Plan to the County Council in January 2009 that recommends 58 actions related to energy-efficiency, renewable energy, forest conservation, transportation and other areas. More information about SWG and the Climate Action Plan is available at a dedicated Web site.
