The County’s Forest and Tree Program
The County has a robust tree and forest program in place. Our mission is to protect and enhance forest and tree resources in the County. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is largely guided by the Forest Preservation Strategy 2000 and the more recent Forest Preservation Strategy Update 2004. These documents outline actions that the County will take over time to improve and increase forests, canopy, and street trees. Through this Strategy, DEP is working to improve stewardship of the forest and tree resources across the County. The Strategy’s goals are to increase the quantity of forest canopy, improve the quality of forests and trees, and protect and restore forest ecosystems throughout the County.
County Street Tree Planting Program

An important part of the Forest Preservation Strategy is the Street Tree Planting Program administered by the Department of Transportation (DOT). Street trees are planted every spring and fall in public rights-of-way and medians throughout the County. To request a new street tree or maintanence of an existing street tree please contact DOT at 240.777.6000 or visit their website. |
