What is Sustainable Development?
Sustainable development meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It recognizes the fundamental and inextricable interdependence between the economy, the environment, and social equity, and works to promote each to the benefit of all.
Why Focus on Sustainability? There is growing evidence that the world community is living beyond its environmental means with adverse effects on the quality of life both locally and around the world. In short, this pattern cannot be sustained. Sustainability, as an organizing principle and value, provides the lens through which we can understand the interrelationship between and balance among social, environmental, and business issues and thus work to enhance the quality of life.
Why is there a Need for the Sustainability Working Group?
The Sustainability Working Group provides a unifying framework to engage the private sector in an on-going way so that the work of government and the community are integrated and leveraged. The Group intends to develop a shared set of goals and strategies that will facilitate mobilization of the entire community.
How can I get Involved?
