Water Quality Advisory Group

Mission Statement:
To recommend policies, programs, and priorities that protect, maintain, and/or restore the biological, chemical and physical integrity of county streams, rivers, wetlands, groundwater, lakes, and other water resources. |
The MontgomeryCounty Water Quality Advisory Group (WQAG) is an 18-member citizens' committee that provides input via annual recommendations to the County Executive and the County Council on water quality management goals and policies, program priorities, and funding. Established by the Water Quality Discharge Law in 1994, the Group provides this input primarily by transmitting resolutions or letters of support. Recommendations may also be directed to other organizations in and around the Chesapeake Bay region, or be requested in development of watershed plans.
The Group is comprised of three voting representatives from each of the following community categories:
1. Academic/scientific 2. Agricultural 3. Business 4. Environmental 5. Public-at-large 6. Public Agency (non-voting)
- The Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC)
- The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection
- Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission
These volunteers provide a valuable service to the community by presenting the concerns and viewpoints of the community sectors they represent on various issues.
