Mosquito Control Information

Mosquitoes will develop in any puddle that lasts more than four days.  To effect a noticeable population Get rid of any standing water around home, school, or business.

Properly dispose of all unwanted containers that catch and hold rainwater: cans, plastic containers, and ceramic pots.

Eliminate standing water in potted plant containers and saucers. Avoid using saucers under plant pots.

Fix dripping faucets and eliminate puddles around faucets, downspouts,
and air conditioning systems.

Properly dispose of any tires around your property. Used tires are the number one habitat for mosquitoes. Click here for more information.

Ensure that trash cans and recycling containers left outdoors have drainage holes on the bottom.

Do not leave garbage can lids upside down.

Clean leaves and other debris out of roof gutters; clogged gutters are prime mosquito habitat.

Make sure drains outside basement entrances are clear and functioning properly.

Flush sump-pump pits weekly.

Aerate ornamental pools and water gardens or stock them with fish. Use a circulating filter system.

Change water in birdbaths, pet water bowls, fountains, and watering troughs frequently – at least twice a week.

Clean & chlorinate swimming pools;  empty unused ones.  Remove water from swimming pool covers.

Turn over unused wading pools.

Turn over wheelbarrows, canoes, and buckets.

Cover containers tightly with window screen or plastic when storing rainwater for garden use.

Inspect flat rooftops for water accumulation. Remove leaves and other debris which can clog drains.  Check HVAC units and cooling towers for ponding due to blocked drainage pipes. Click here for more information.
