WALK TO SCHOOL DAY 2009 - BETHESDA ELEMENTARY

<--Back

Students and families around the county and the globe walked and bicycled to school on October 7, 2009!

Over 23 Montgomery County schools participated in this year's International Walk to School Day and helped to promote and encourage safe walking and bicycling throughout the year. Bethesda Elementary was Montgomery County's Walk to School Day host school this year and the students, parents, faculty and staff did an excellent job at making this year's event a success!!

The walk began 8:15 am with a rousing roar by the Bethesda Lions at Caroline Freeland Park. Lt. Governor Brown, County Executive Leggett, MCPS board members and other county and state officials joined the students, teachers, and parents in a 3/4 mile walk to the school.

A press conference, that included Bethesda Students, was held at the school's playground which culminated in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new sidewalk on Wilson Lane, adjacent to the school.

If you are interested in more information about Walk to School Day and if you'd like to have a Walk to School Day event at your school next October, please be sure to contact us. For more information see the International Walk to School Day website: http://www.walktoschool.org/.
