30TH ANNUAL LANDSCAPE BEAUTIFICATION COMPETITION

The annual Landscape Beautification Contest is sponsored by Montgomery County Departments of Transportation's Keep Montgomery County Clean and Green in partnership with the Department of Environmental Protection.

We invite you to participate in this years ANNUAL LANDSCAPE BEAUTIFICATION COMPETITION. This contest encourages residents, businesses and organizations to create landscaping and neighborhood beautification projects that improve the overall appearance of the County.

arrow pointer ENTRY GUIDELINES 

The goals of the competition are to encourage landscaping projects that support beauty without toxicity, help reduce stormwater runoff, minimize water use, provide wildlife habitat and keep pesticides and fertilizers out of local streams - - and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay. To accomplish these goals, the use of native plants is highly encouraged. Landscape entries cannot contain non-native invasive species.
 

arrow pointer WHO CAN ENTER 

Any person or group maintaining commercial, public or community property, or rainscapes projects in Montgomery County is eligible. *Please note: Each person/group may enter a maximum of five projects, not including those in the sustained maintenance category.

 

arrow pointer WHO ARE THE JUDGES

Members of the Landscape Design Council of the National Capital Area Garden Clubs, Montgomery County Master Gardeners, Montgomery County College and Governmental staff and respresentatives of the horticulture and landscape design business community.  Judging will occure at the end of June.

Award winners will be notified in the Fall and posted on the County web page.

Rainscapes rain gardens or conservation projects that meet Rainscapes Program guidelines, are designed to handle stormwater and visible to County residents.

Professional
Outdoor landscaping projects designed and maintained by professional landscape architects or contractors at locations such as shopping malls, restaurants, retail
businesses, gas stations, etc.

Outdoor projects at locations such as schools, government buildings, residential communities, hospitals,churches or libraries.

YOUTH
Outdoor landscape projects installed and maintained by an individual or group of people ages 18 or younger. Adult supervision is permitted, but youth must be responsible for the majority of the work.

SUSTAINED MAINTENANCE
Non-Professional
Projects receiving three awards of Excellence and then maintained at that level for two more years will receive the Golden Trowel Award and be retired from the competition.

Professional
Professionals receiving at least nine Awards of  Excellence over three years or a total of 15 over five years will receive the Golden Trowel Award.
