Bus Stop Improvement

The Sidewalk Program provides construction services and construction management for the Bus Stop Improvement Program.

The Bus Stop Improvement Project is a Department of Transportation (DOT) Capitol Improvement Project (CIP) that was approved by the County Council in 2006. It is an $11 million program to render all 5,400 bus stops in Montgomery County accessible by wheelchair, (Americans with Disabilities Act) (ADA) accessible and as pedestrian safe as feasible. The objective is to provide a safe location to wait for the bus, out of the way of traffic, and to be sure that there is a safe, ADA accessible pathway for passengers to get to and from the bus stop. Some bus stops are being relocated in this process. To date, over 2,600 bus stops have been improved.
