Noisy Drug- Nebulized

Quiet Drug also

Levalbuterol is a nebulizer solution (Xopenex) used to treat and/or prevent bronchospasms in asthmatics. Prophylactally, it is sometimes used mixed in combination with a nebulized corticosteroid, such as Pulmacort Respules.

It is currently NOT approved for prehospital use in Maryland

Drug Action Rapid-acting bronchodilator
Indications

Respiratory distress and/or bronchospasm associated with asthma, allergic reaction, chronic bronchitis or emphysema

Contraindications

None

Side Effects Tachycardia, palpitations, hypertension, angina, nervousness, anxiety, muscle tremors, dizziness, headache, sweating, nausea, vomiting, sore throat
Dose

Not in Maryland Protocol. Usual dose 0.63 mg or 1.25 mg t.i.d (q6-8 hours) via nebulizer

Supplied as

Xopenex Solution 0.63 mg/3 mL & 1.25 mg/3 mL.
